Dr Mujtaba Husain

I am Dr Mujtaba Husain, a Consultant Liaison Psychiatrist employed by South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. I am a Clinical Director for Maudsley Private Care, the UK’s first NHS Private Practice Unit in mental health.

I am the lead consultant at the Persistent Physical Symptoms Research and Treatment Unit, a national centre delivering psychological and physical therapy for complex physical symptoms. I led on the service’s transformation from the Chronic Fatigue Unit to a centre treating all persistent physical symptoms.

I am a Consultant in Liaison Psychiatry (the branch of psychiatry that focuses on the mind-body interface) working in medical settings at King’s College Hospital.

I am Clinical Director for Mental Health at the Health Innovation Network, an Academic Health Science Network, which supports the spread and adoption of evidence-based innovations for mental health in South London and nationally.

From 2019 to 2022 I was Associate Medical Director responsible for national and specialist services at the Maudsley, the Trust with the largest body of these services in the UK. These include the National Affective Disorders Unit, the National Psychosis Unit, Eating Disorders, Perinatal Psychiatry, Neuropsychiatry and specialist anxiety, trauma, dissociation and psychosexual health services.

I am a former chair of the national committees for doctors in training at the Royal College of Psychiatrists and the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges. I am also a graduate of the National Medical Director’s Clinical Fellowship program.

I regularly teach on mind-body psychiatry. I have published a number of peer-reviewed academic and educational papers in the field and speak regularly at national conferences.

Medico-Legal practice

I regularly provide expert reports in civil and criminal proceedings and have experience of giving oral evidence in court. I undertake approximately 25 new reports per year. My medico-legal experience is wide ranging and includes mental capacity, fitness to plead and insanity.

I have particular expertise in personal injury and medical negligence cases where both physical and mental health are involved. I also focus on cases where trauma, adversity or abuse is implicated in overlapping and often complex physical and psychological illness. 

I regularly advise the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman on complaints and serious incident investigations regarding negligence and liability. These are the most complex complaints which NHS Trusts have failed to resolve locally.

Maggie Dawson

I’m a fully registered paediatric physiotherapist who is registered with the DBS update service and fully compliant. I have CSP, APCP and MLACP membership. I’m career orientated but enjoy having a good work life balance. I enjoy travelling and have lived and worked in Australia and the Cayman Islands as a Paediatric Physiotherapist. I completed my Post-Graduate diploma in Paediatric Physiotherapy at the University of London with Merit in 2014. I have extensive experience in Paediatric Physiotherapy both in the UK and Overseas and in the private and public sectors. I have worked across numerous clinical settings and across a wide range of conditions and ages. I have completed the Cardiff University Bond Solon Civil Expert Certificate and undertake Medico-legal work alongside my private practice. Dr Alex Khrypunov

I graduated from Medical School in Crimea, Ukraine, in 1995.

I was granted full registration with the General Medical Council, UK in January 2009 and have been working for the NHS since April 2009.

Since then, I have completed my postgraduate training in Psychiatry starting with the Foundation Programme.

I became a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2015 and completed dual training in General Adult and Old Age psychiatry in September 2019.

Since October 2019 I have been working as Perinatal Consultant Psychiatrist within the Perinatal Mental Health Service covering Hull, East Riding and the North Lincolnshire area.

I have attended a special 15-day course for New Consultants working in Perinatal Psychiatry, organised by the Royal College of Psychiatrists and Health Education of England.

I regularly teach medical students and have an Honorary appointment as Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Hull York Medical School (HYMS). 

My areas of expertise include General Psychiatry and Old Age Psychiatry, I am on the GMC Specialist Register for both specialties. My additional area of expertise is Perinatal Psychiatry including pre-conception advice and management of mental disorders in pregnancy and postnatal period.

Dr Benjamin Schreiber

Medicolegal experience

I commenced medicolegal work in 2014 and have completed the Cardiff University Law School Bond Solon Expert Witness Certificate. I am completing about 30 reports a year covering a variety of cases within my areas of expertise including personal injury and clinical negligence as well as doing reports for cases being heard in an employment tribunal, in the family court and in the criminal courts. Cases have involved everything from whiplash and personal injury, military cases, work based injuries, and a full range of rheumatic conditions. I have also been cross examined in court on my evidence.

Dr Maria Parissi

I am a Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist in Pain Management, registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC). I have an Honour’s Degree and a Master’s Degree in Psychology, and a Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology.

I have more than 10 years’ experience working both in Mental and Physical Health. In the past 6 years, I have provided specialist psychological assessment, formulation, and evidence-based interventions to individuals, across the life span, with complex mental and physical health difficulties. I specialise in Pain Management. I have a particular clinical interest in psychological trauma and long-term pain. Dr John E Williams

Dr Williams has been completing Medicolegal Reports on a regular basis since 2013.

He has undergone formal training in Report writing by attendance at numerous different seminars, lectures and conferences.

He has written Reports commissioned by Defendants and Claimants.

Claimants are seen promptly at the Chelsea Outpatient Centre and Reports are completed within 4 weeks of commissioning.

Dr Williams has extensive experience in the treatment of all types of acute, chronic and cancer-related pain problems. In particular he specialises in the treatment of cancer pain, persistent pain syndromes, neuropathic pain and pain after trauma.


Professional qualifications and NHS appointments

Dr Williams qualified MBBS at the London Hospital Medical College in 1985. 

He trained in pain management and anaesthesia at St Thomas’s Hospital London, where he obtained the FRCA in 1992. He then continued his training at the University of Maryland, Baltimore USA, and in Oxford, before being appointed consultant in Pain Management and Anaesthesia at the Royal Marsden Hospital, in 1996.

He was granted Foundation Fellowship of the Faculty of Pain Medicine of the Royal College of Anaesthetists in 2007.

Dr Dmitry Kruglov

I am a Consultant in Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine with nearly three decades of experience (graduated from medical school in 1993). In 2000 I completed a Research Fellowship and defended PhD Theses.

Having moved to the United Kingdom in 2006 I began working in the NHS and, subsequently, was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists, Fellowship of the Faculty of Pain Medicine of The Royal College of Anaesthetists, and also completed a one year fellowship in Neuromodulation (spinal cord stimulation and intrathecal drug delivery).

My current consultant post (since 2015) is at the University College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. This job comprises anaesthetic sessions with regular use of regional techniques (including spinal, epidural and peripheral nerve blocks), pain clinics (abdomino-pelvic pain, caner pain and neuromodulation clinic), and interventional lists (spinal injections, spinal cord stimulation, intrathecal neurolysis and drug delivery).

I teach anaesthetic and pain trainees and visiting consultants during my interventional sessions (Ultrasound, X-ray and CT-guided). I have developed new approach for epidural and intrathecal interventions under CT. I am primary investigator for pain research at the Pain Management Centre (National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery). My research projects include peri-operative thoracic epidurals, anti-neuropathic intravenous infusions, intravenous anaesthetic induction, neuroablative CT-guided techniques (intrathecal neurolysis and cordotomy), and spinal cord stimulation for neuropathic visceral pain.

Mr Thomas D A Cosker

Director of Human Anatomy, University of Oxford

I have been Director of Human Anatomy for the University of Oxford since 2014. I am responsible for the delivery of all undergraduate human anatomy teaching both in the dissecting room and associated facilities. I also examine for the undergraduate course. I am the External Examiner for University College Dublin, in Anatomy. I am the Designated Individual for the Oxford Anatomy Licence.

I am also the course convenor and organiser of Miller UK an international course to prepare candidates for the FRCS (Tr & Orth). This draws on the skills of 75 world famous surgical tutors. I am the course lead for the Anatomy Section of the course and have already taught over 1,000 surgeons on the course.

Consultant Surgeon, Oxford Sarcoma Service, Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre

I am also a Consultant Orthopaedic Oncology Surgeon at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford. I am conversant with the full range of orthopaedic oncology procedures and have a particular interest in treating upper limb tumours (both primary and secondary). I personally see over 50 patients a week in our specialist tumour clinics and as a team we operate on around 15 cases a week. I am engaged in an active programme of teaching and research and have produce several key papers in this area.

Medicolegal Experience

I have been preparing Medicolegal Reports for over ten years and see around a 1,000 cases per annum. The majority of this is personal injury work but I also undertake around 20 Clinical Negligence cases per year. I have been to Court three times. I can see urgent cases within two weeks and will turn all reports around within 10 working days. I specialise in general orthopaedic trauma, complex injuries of the upper limb, clinical negligence work including bone and soft tissue sarcoma and complex shoulder cases.

Microsoft Hololens Technology

I am actively implementing Hololens Augmented Reality software in partnership with Case Western Reserve University at the University of Oxford. The first headsets are scheduled to arrive shortly following a successful grant from the Nuffield Hospitals Fund and we will work to test this material and innovate new learning modules with our senior medical students and surgical trainees. This will be a first in the UK and will help reinforce the importance of Anatomy for our future surgeons. We are currently developing modules specifically aimed at sarcoma tumour pathology which will educate medical students and allied healthcare professionals as well as potentially act as a surgical adjunct in theatre. 

Daniela Antonie

I am a Consultant Clinical Psychologist chartered by HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) and a fully accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist with the BABCP (British Association of Cognitive and Behavioural Psychotherapists).  

I have over 17 years of experience in providing specialist mental health assessments and evidence-based psychotherapy (e.g. individual and group Cognitive Behavioural Therapy -CBT and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing – EMDR) for a range of moderate to very complex psychological and emotional difficulties to adults. 

I am currently the Clinical Lead for Newham Talking Therapies (East London NHS Foundation Trust), a high performing London-based Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) service. Professor Sam Ahmedzai

Sam is Emeritus Professor in the Medical School at University of Sheffield, with
30 years’ experience of being consultant physician in palliative medicine, covering
both acute hospital and hospice. 
His Sheffield academic clinical department had an active programme in care and
research in cancer patients at all stage of illness from diagnosis to survivorship or
end of life. He was lead clinician for supportive and palliative care in the North Trent
Cancer Network and for the Sheffield Adult Cancer Survivorship project.
His research covers – biology of pain; management of symptoms of cancer and
arising from its treatment; holistic needs and quality of life assessment; improving
supportive care services for cancer and chronic disease patients; advocating patient
and public involvement in cancer research.
Sam is NIHR National Specialty Lead for supportive care and community research
and co-chairs the NCRI research group on Living With and Beyond Cancer. He
chaired the 2015 NICE NG31 guideline for care of the dying adult and was Clinical
Adviser to the 2019 NICE NG142 guideline on service delivery for people in the last
year of life. He was chair of the 2016 RCP National Audit of Care at the end of life in
hospital.
In 2016 Sam was given the Lifetime Achievement Award by the British Thoracic
Oncology Group and is Honorary Fellow of the Faculty of Pain Medicine in the Royal
College of Anaesthetists.
He has conducted medico-legal work since 2003. This includes providing expert
medical witness reports for the General Medical Council; Her Majesty’s police forces;
Her Majesty’s Coroner’s courts; and acting for clients under instructions from
solicitors in civil cases.

Dr Rachel Gibbons

Dr Gibbons is an experienced consultant in adult psychiatry. She is currently working
independently and is the Chair of the Working Group on the Effect of Suicide and Homicide
on Clinicians, and the Vice-Chair of the Psychotherapy Faculty at the Royal College of
Psychiatrists. Until February 2020 Dr Gibbons worked as the Head of Therapies for the
Priory Group, providing leadership of all therapies across the Priory Healthcare division
covering around 100 hospitals and wellbeing centres.

Until September 2018 Dr Gibbons worked as a substantive consultant in the NHS. Her role
was as the sole consultant for the Complex Care Team at the Halliwick at St Ann’s Hospital.
This is a nationally leading innovative service for all the patients in Haringey who need
secondary care and do not have a psychotic illness.

Dr Gibbons was the Suicide Lead for Barnet Enfield and Haringey Mental Health Trust and
the Chair of the Serious Incident Review Group. Previously. she worked for a highly
regarded teaching hospital in North London where, in addition to her consultant role, she
was Co-Chair of the Trust’s Medical Advisory Committee. Dr Gibbons has also worked as a
Liaison Consultant Psychiatrist in the Royal Free Hospital Psychiatric Liaison team.
Dr Gibbons’ clinical caseload includes all adult mental disorders. She has full registration
with the General Medical Council and is a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
Dr Gibbons has two CSTs (certificates of specialist training) and therefore has two entries on
the GMC’s Specialist Register. The first is in adult psychiatry and the second in adult
psychotherapy. Dr Gibbons has held consultant posts in both specialities. Dr Gibbons has
trainings in a broad range of psychotherapies; she is on the British Psychoanalytic Council
(BPC) register. Dr Gibbons now spends most of her time leading work at the Royal College
of Psychiatrists. She has recently published several papers, on suicide, homicide and
mourning. She has just won the one of the Presidents Prizes for 2024.

Dr Gibbons has extensive experience as an expert witness in the medico-legal field over the
last 23 years and completes around 1000 reports per year on adults, children and
adolescents. She reports on employment, personal injuries, sexual abuse, clinical
negligence and various other matters. Dr Gibbons has provided evidence in court and has
completed well over 1000 joint reports with other experts.

Professor F. S. Fahmy

Medico Legal Experience:

Professor Fahmy commenced Medico-legal work in 2001.
He is in current clinical practice. Professor Fahmy has been preparing medical reports for over 20 years with reference to Personal Injuries for Plastic and Hand surgery. His reports are impartial, independent of the source of instruction and contain a range of opinion where applicable.
Professor Fahmy’s opinion is based upon many years of experience of medico-legal practice with current clinical experience and up-to-date training in both medico-legal and clinical matters.

Dr Gerald Coakley

Dr Coakley is a Consultant Rheumatologist with a particular interest in chronic fatigue syndrome / myalgic encephalomyelitis (CFS/ME), chronic pain, fibromyalgia, whiplash, complex regional pain syndrome and other medically unexplained physical symptoms. He has run an interdisciplinary service for CFS/ME in the private sector since 2007.

He has a PhD in the molecular immunogenetics of Felty’s syndrome (a rare complication of rheumatoid arthritis), and has wide experience of inflammatory rheumatic disease including rheumatoid and psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and connective tissue diseases such as lupus, myositis and Sjogren’s syndrome. 

He has extensive experience in providing medicolegal reports for both Claimant and Defendant in relation to personal injury, and is happy to consider medical negligence cases.  His current waiting time is within 4 weeks with a report completed within 4 weeks of the appointment date.

Dr Patrick Hill

I have an honours degree in Psychology and both a Masters Degree and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. I am chartered by the British Psychological Society as a Clinical and a Health

Psychologist and hold an Associate Fellowship of the Society. I am also registered as a Chartered Scientist by the Science Council.

I completed clinical training in 1987 and have over 30 years’ experience in applied Clinical Health Psychology, specialising in the management of chronic conditions. I have developed a number of multidisciplinary services providing support to people with long term health conditions, particularly chronic pain.

I have 25 years’ experience in medico-legal reporting and court work in the areas of personal injury, chronic pain and post-traumatic stress disorder. This work has been predominantly on

behalf of the plaintiff and a small number of cases have been undertaken on behalf of the defendant as well as on a jointly instructed basis. 

I held senior posts at Gloucestershire Royal NHS Foundation Trust and the Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust, where I was professionally responsible for teams of health

psychologists engaged in clinical, organisational and research work.

From 2001 – 2008 I worked for a number of NHS national support teams, specialising in clinical governance and patient involvement. During this time, I held an honorary contract with North

Bristol NHS Foundation Trust as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist in the Pain Management Unit, where I maintained my clinical practice.

In October 2008 I was appointed Professional Lead for Clinical Health Psychology by NHS Birmingham East and North. This post incorporated clinical sessions in a multidisciplinary Pain Clinic. From December 2010 until I retired from full time NHS work in March 2015, my employing organisation was Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Trust. I currently hold part time contracts with a number of NHS Pain and other clinical services.

I am a member of the British Psychological Society’s Divisions of Clinical Psychology and Health Psychology. Other societies include The British Pain Society and the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP).

Dr Michael Coupe

Medical Training

Dr Coupe underwent training in Anaesthesia, Intensive Care and Pain Medicine in Poole, Guys Hospital London, Cardiff, and the Bristol region. In 2005 he was appointed as a Consultant in Anaesthesia, Intensive Care and Pain Medicine to the Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust. He has been a Trust Governor for a number of years.

He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists, a Fellow of the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine and a Fellow of the Faculty of Pain Medicine of the Royal College of Anaesthetists.

Scope of current pain work and experience

Dr Coupe is a full time NHS Consultant. A substantial proportion of his time is spent working in the field of pain medicine. He has a busy private pain medicine practice based at Circle Bath Hospital and the BMI Bath Clinic.

Dr Coupe has a broad range of interests within the field of pain medicine, including interventional and non-interventional aspects of pain management, treatment of neuropathic pain and opioids in chronic non-cancer pain. He is skilled in a wide range of interventional techniques including but not limited to: epidurals at all spinal levels, selective nerve root blockade and radiofrequency lesioning for chronic facet joint pain. He is the lead for regional anaesthesia in the NHS, having particular skills in ultrasound guided peripheral nerve blockade.

Dr Coupe works within a multidisciplinary team utilizing a holistic approach that includes rehabilitative and psychological aspects of pain management.

Dr Coupe completed Bond Solon Civil Procedure Rules for Expert Witness Certificate in 2016. He undertakes CPD in the medicolegal field and is a regular attendee at the Cambridge Annual Medicolegal Conference.

Dr Charles Pither

Dr Charles Pither is a Consultant Pain Specialist within the independent sector. He is also the founder and Director of Lex Medica.

Dr Pither has been providing medico-legal reports since 1995 and prepares approximately 50 reports a year with a 60/40 ratio of claimant to defendant.

Dr Pither’s current waiting list for medico-legal appointments is approximately 2 to 3 months.

Dr Daniel Wheeler

Having spent the early years of his consultant post establishing a research group, Dr Wheeler is now developing his medicolegal practice. Many of the skills obtained in research are transferable to medicolegal practice, including attention to detail, thoroughness, working to strict deadlines, and excellent written and oral communication skills.

Dr Wheeler has been preparing pain management medical reports for the Court for over 5 years, but because of his other commitments limits himself to one or two primary medical reports per month. Most of his reports relate to cases of claimants with chronic pain, but he also writes reports on patient safety, perioperative incidents and medication errors resulting in injury.

Dr Wheeler will prepare medical reports on the instructions of both claimants’ and defendants’ parties, including joint instructions.

He has also compiled reports for the Department of Work and Pensions, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency, the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority, occupational health services, and insurance companies.

Dr Wheeler has completed the Bond Solon ‘Courtroom Skills’ and ‘Excellence in Report Writing’ courses, attended the Cambridge annual Medicolegal Course at Peterhouse College, and is a member of the Cambridge Medicolegal Forum.

Dr Wheeler has attended Court once and has provided oral evidence once.

Dr Vladimir Gorelov

Dr Gorelov has been an Independent Consultant in Pain Management and Anaesthesia since 2014.

Previous to this he was Consultant in Anaesthesia and Pain Management at the Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust (2006-2014).

Dr Gorelov is a fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists and the Faculty of Pain Medicine. He is a member of the International Headache Society and Spine Intervention Society. He is an examiner and lecturer for the European Diploma in Anaesthesiology, Intensive Care and Pain Medicine.

He has completed the Medico-Legal Expert Course and has attended various Medico-Legal Conferences.

Dr Joshua Adedokun

Dr Adedokun has an expanding and ever-growing medico-legal practice preparing medical reports on the instructions of claimants, defendants and joint.

He completes in excess of 120-150 medical reports a year, his current ratio being Claimant 60%, Defendant 30% and Joint 10% . He has made a number of court appearances.

He also has a wide experience in Clinical/Medical Negligence cases.
Dr Adedokun is trained extensively to work in the medico-legal reporting domain and has completed an array of training courses.

He was appointed Consultant in Anaesthetics and Pain Medicine at the Pennine Acute NHS Trust (North Manchester General Hospital) in May 2007.
He has extensive experience in a wide range of chronic pain conditions.
He also runs a successful private practice.

Dr Adedokun became a Fellow of the Faculty of the College of Anaesthetists of the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland in 2004 and in the same year became a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists. He was granted Fellowship by assessment of the Faculty of Pain Medicine of the Royal College of Anaesthetists in 2009.

Dr Emma Chojnowska

Dr Chojnowska is an NHS Consultant Anaesthetist with a specialist interest in Pain Medicine; Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at Brighton and Sussex Medical School; Co-director of the Royal College of Surgeons Advanced Trauma Life Support Course in Chichester.

Dr Chojnowska was awarded the Cardiff University Law School Bond Solon Expert Witness Certificate in 2015. She undertakes reports for both Claimant and Defendant covering personal injury and medical negligence cases and her work includes reports for a Medical Defence Organisation. She undertakes CPD in the medicolegal field and is a regular attendee at the Cambridge Annual Medicolegal Conference.

Following a medical degree from Cambridge and training in East Anglia and Wessex with Fellowships in Pain Medicine undertaken in Bristol and New Zealand, Dr Chojnowska was appointed in December 2000 as a Consultant to the Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. She has also undertaken work in Pain Medicine at Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals Trust. She manages NHS and private patients in her private practise Pain Clinic.

Dr Chojnowska is a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists and a Fellow of the Faculty of Pain Medicine of the Royal College of Anaesthetists.

Dr Andrew Logan

Dr Andrew Logan is a Consultant Anaesthetist & Pain Specialist based at the Countess of Chester NHS Trust (since 1995). He is the lead clinician with the Pain Service.

He has been engaged in medico-legal work related to pain management since 1996 and has developed a specialist interest in this over the last few years.

Dr Logan has attended several expert training courses. He has written numerous medico-legal reports acting for claimants in personal injury cases and has experience of providing reports acting for the defendant too.

Dr Logan is happy to assist with clinical negligence instructions.

Dr Logan is a member of the Merseyside Pain Training Advisory Committee, The Pain Society, the North England Pain Society and The British Medical Association.

He is also a Fellow of the Faculty of Pain Medicine of the Royal College of Anaesthetists as well as a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists.

He has a specific interest in all aspects of adult pain relief and/or rehabilitation from painful conditions.

Dr Augustine Aluko

Dr Aluko is an HCPC registered and Chartered Physiotherapist specialising in Musculoskeletal conditions and his work has been published in peer review journals.

He is the Lead Clinician and Managing Director of Physiotherapy Consultancy Services Ltd.

Previous to this he was a Lecturer in Physiotherapy at the Brunel University. Dr Aluko maintains links to research as a regular reviewer for a number of peer reviewed journals in his field of expertise.

Dr Aluko is a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and the Medico-Legal Association of Chartered Physiotherapists.

He has experience of both Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence report writing and has successfully completed the Cardiff University Bond Solon Expert Witness Certificate for Civil and Criminal procedures.
